Default Miss matched tires

Right now on my 900 RR I have dunlop 208s. Most of you may know that they no longer make the 208s. They have gone to the qualifiers. From what I have heard they are pretty good tires. My front tire is in really good shape but my back is not so good. I was going to flat out replace both of them. But a friend of mine suggested that I just replace the back. Do you guys think I should match the compounds or just go the cheap and easy way ouuys is always t and replace the rear only. Any input from you all is always appreciated>

Default RE: Miss matched tires

recently I had the same delima and I replaced just the rear (michelin pilot) and then was told that it was dangerous to have a new rear and old front, as it is always better to replace both or at least have newer on the front. Cause if you have more grip on back and come into a corner hot, the front would give before the rear(ouch). Where if you got more grip(new) on front, the rear would brake out before the front. Which is much more controllable. So I just went and got two new tyres (corsa pros) and love them!! Hope this helps..

I recomend getting new tires. You'll save a little bit of cash buying them at the same time, so that should make up for some of the tread still left on the front tire. Although, I did run a new PP rear, and an old pilot sport front with no problems what so ever for about 500 miles. The differences between an old 208 and a new qualifier may be more dramatic. Overall, its just a matter of choice.

if you won't be pushing it hard or running hard canyons and stuff...you will be fine.
but don't let that front tire trick you...my experience with 208 is that the front usually seems to outlast the rear and be ok one day but a little bit after getting the new rear, you see that the front cups and it happens fast!

+1 on the ok. I replace my tires a pair at a time but it's only because I do track days and $300 tires are cheap insurance for me not to wad up my ****. For just street riding, hell, I'd only replace the rear and front when it was wore enough to justify it.
