Metal chunks/flakes in exhaust?????
Hey all. Hoping someone has seen this before, and I am hoping I don't need to worry. Got a 2006 600rr I picked up at a amazing price from a fellow Marine. Was laid down but not hard. I have had it in the garage for 8 months now and finally got around to getting new fairings and all for it. Today I changed oil and did a full service on it (runs perfect) but when I rev the rpms there are small metal shavings coming from the exhaust?? And actually a decent little chunk came out as well. The chunk was very soft metal, like the stuff exhaust gaskets on cars are made of. Is this just maybe crap from the muffler loose?? I did have it off while detailing the frame? Someone please calm my nerves!! The exhaust is stock, and absolutely no other issues! Thanks everyone!
It sounds like you may have lost some of the gasket material that seals the exhaust when you had it off. It could have been pinched a little different and worked loose. I'm not 100 percent sure how the stock muffler is configured, and it could have loosened up some material during the crash.
It wasn't black in color was it? Did it crumble easily? If so, it is probably just thick carbon build up. It will flake off from time to time.
Either way, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks for the response!! No, it is not black, it is grayish/silver...just like gasket material. I was pretty sure it was nothing serious as the engine runs strong and sounds great. Just needed a second opinion! Thanks a million for the input!
