Does anyone know how to verify the numbers on the engine with the numbers on the title?

The number isn't on the engine, it's on the frame. The title has no serial for the engine. Should be able to find a large VIN tag riveted near the gauge cluster somewhere.

What bike do you have? There is a number on your case. The vin on the title should match the vin on the neck.
