Default Lube VS WAX? How do you get it on?

Now that i got you to look what is the diffrence between a wax and lube. I know it sounds stupid but i have always used chain grease and never a wax. What are the benifits of one verse the other?

The difference between the two is essentially on how the product behaves after it's applied. A wax will have a thicker consistency that a wet lube will. Either one will (or should) provide lubrication to the chain. Here is an indept comparison video on the subject of chain lubricants by a trusted publicist: Bike World. From what I've come to understand, the best advice is to find a product which you're comfortable with, and to maintain a regular chain maintenace schedule.
In my opinion, since we're discussing sealed o-ring chains (primarily), lubricating our chains basically consists of reducing friction on the rollers, and in sealing out dirt and moisture. The pins are already lubricated from the factory and the o-rings (in theory) will prevent any contaminants from entering (including lubricants) while preserving the lubricant that's already present inside.

I agree, your only maintaining the external components of the chain, I use a wax type these days, as the "fling off" isn't as bad as the normal lube.
There are also a few kits out there that take the idea of lubing your chain that bit further, like this one for my bike: http://www.scottoiler.com/SuitableKi...008+%252D%2529

A few manufacturers have come up with different ideas over the years, I can remember the Yamaha XV 'Sport' that came with a totally encased chain system, filled with grease, never caught on though.

I always use wax, I don't even know what fling off is like. The scott oiler seems like over kill, but they are proven for long distance riding.

Interesting, I just ordered a new chain and I like the idea of wax more than lube, esp since I won't be riding often in inclement conditions.

Does a new chain need to be cleaned before the wax based lubes can be applied? I would assume the grease applied before shipping would prevent the wax from sticking?

just clean the chain thoroughly and make sure its hot b4 u spray watever lube/wax ur using, wipe off the excess and let it dry for an hour b4 riding and ur good. repsol, or motul lube works best in my opinion for fling resist and time between lubing. spraying lube/wax on a dirty chain doesnt do crap.
