Default Low Engine Oil Indicator!

Hi,

I have a 2001 F4i and last week I changed oil on it (This wasn't first time). Since then, the Engine Oil (Low pressure?) is flashing after I turn on the ignition key. But, it goes off as soon I start the engine. This is the first time I am seeing this issue. As per the book, I checked the engine oil level and everything looks right. On a level surface, after idling the engine for 2-3 minutes and turning it off for 2-3 minutes, the oil level is just below the "upper mark". I put about 4Q oil in it. Other than this issue, it runs fine and the power is also seems good.

I am confused and dont have anything else to try. Should I take off some oil from it? Please advice,

thanks for your time,

Sounds like it maybe the oil pressure sending unit. Check to see if it may have a loose connection or maybe it is going bad.

The low oil pressure warning light will be on until you start the engine. That is because there is not enough pressure without the engine running.

Thanks for your replies,

RoadiJeff - I understand what you are saying, but I didnt see this behavior for the past 5 years. It came up this time only. So, wondering what made it to behave differently.

Slowrider - You mean, pull out the pressure sensor and inspect it?

thanks

My 93 is the same when you turn it on the oil light comes on but when you start it it goes away. Without the bike running there is nothing to create any oil pressure so it lights up. It's normal you must have just overlooked it for 5 years and only noticed it cause you just changed your oil and were looking for a problem. Either way if I'm right or your worries are right it does not sound like a big issue since it goes away when you start it. If it stayed lit then I'd worry. Scratch that. First id shut it down then I would worry.

Ps did you use a different type of oil? Maybe you bought to light of a weight?

RJ is right. Its normal for the light to be on until the bike is started. If the bike is running and you see the light, then you would have an issue.

The same applies if you were to hit the killswitch to stop the engine, but left the key on, the oil light will come on once the engine stops running.

Thanks for your replies guys. That helped to build my confidence and took off the worry. May be I did not notice it for the 5 years!!!!???

DagonRais - Yes, this time I switched from standard Honda motor oil to a Synthetic oil. Actually, it was a mix. I used the left over from the last gallon, and mixed with the new synthetic. Hope that is not an issue.

Thanks again,
