Default Lever lubrication

So I did my first chain adjustment and cleaned the chain and adjusted the slack in the throttle and clutch cables and all and I was noticing that the levers seemed that they need to be lubriated. The grease or whatever it is that is brownish looks dry and I'm wondering what you use to lubricate it or if it needs to be done at all.
