Default Kickstand sensor?

OK, My bike has had this problem for about a week. It sputters at higher higher RPMs when you give it gas. Also the (N) light won't always come on or it will flicker. I had an old battery in the bike so I switched it with a new one in hopes of fixing the problem. I fired the bike up and it ran like crap! Sputtered, popped and backfired! I played with the wires and it started to run better so I attempted to the take it on a test ride. The second I put the kickstand up it died. The little light went off in my head and I started to have some success playing with the kickstand wires. I got the bike to run smooth again. However, the bike would not crank when the kickstand was down. I rode the bike home (50 miles) and it still sputtered at around 6000 RPM when given gas. It didn't sputter a consistent amount. Sometimes it would do it so bad that it was hard to accelerate. Three miles later it wouldn't sputter at all. Three miles after that it only sputter a little. As soon as I got home I disconnected the kickstand switch. It was very filthy so I cleaned it up. I cleaned and dried the connector piece really good. I plugged it in, took it for short test and the sputtering seemed to almost gone. The engine still will not run when I put the the kickstand down...and yes it is in neutral. I am planning on replacing the Kickstand sensor in hopes of curing all problems, but I am open to suggestion.

Your N light flickering is an indication your Neutral Safety Switch may be going bad. What happens is, when you put your kickstand down and the NSS isnt working correctly, it will kill the engine as its telling the bike it is in gear. this would indicate that the kickstand switch is working. As long as the bike is in neutral, the kickstand switch has no effect on the bike running or not. that switch is overridden by the NSS.

However, the NSS would have nothing to do with the bike sputtering while driving. If the kickstand switch is acting up like you suspect, then that could cause your issues with the sputtering and dying.

If the the new kickstand switch doenst fix it, it might be time to look into your FPR or sparkplugs.

Does your bike have any codes?

Its possible you have a few different issues going on at once.
