Used to have an 81 Honda XL-500 "THUMPER", pull in the compression relief lever, kick it a few times to get rid of the cylinder presure, then as you kick down about a 1/3 or so on the way down release the compression reliefe lever, try this a few times, alwaays remember to turn the handle bares away from the kickstart side, have had my leg thrown into the handle bars on a compression stroke kick back hurts like hell [:@]

You'll get it. It is all in your timing on how you attack the kick starter and exactly when you dump the compression release. You will develope the "timing" for doing it and then it will be so easy, you can show off in front of your friends. One thing to never, ever forget. Do not, baby your leg when you kick it. If you do, it will try to show you that it is boss, instead of the other way around. Once you get it, it is like kicking a 175.
