hi guys just a quick one for you the 2003 defiantly has a chip I know this as I programed my own spares that I brought off ebay into my bike and that's a cbr 600 f4 2000 reg

 

Not dodgy info, region specific info.

In the UK there IS a chip in the key. That is because your bike has a HISS immobiliser (look around key hole).

You'll need a key blank with transponder chip, get the key cut and then get the key programmed. If you have 2 keys, programming a new key is easy.

If you have 1 or 0 keys, it can be a massive PITA and expense.

 

Well now I know as well for when I get a newer bike.

i guees the blank i bought does not have chip. will see if it has insert for one. when i had my car key cut they had the transponders in store.

i will have to investigate more me thinks

ok so I got the blank from china today and its really good quality! (most things are made there anyway now)

ok , so Im thinking how about I drill a little hole in the top and buy one of these id46 chips and stuck it in with some loctite?

I remember reading somewhere that if you tape the the old key with the chip in it to the ECU, you can use a non-chipped key to turn the ignition and start the bike.

Never needed to do this personally since we don't have HISS systems here.

 

dont suppose your anywhere nr Berkshire? I will pay you to chip mine?

My dealer doesn't cut keys, and if he did he wouldn't do ebay keys. I got mine cut at an independent locksmith. It took a long time to find one that would cut them. Key was $3, cut was $10. He said they were tricky, and that's why most places won't cut them (walmart, etc.)

 

i can get it cut....but its the cost of chipping....just been quoted £50!!!!

i can buy a house for that in the north!

 

so ive bought the above.....and it transpires the key blank has a space behind the blanking panels for a transponder! 99 pence! bargain. hopefully we can get the thing cut and programmed now. someone said a locksmith might do it failing that theres plenty of key cutting places about....
