I would be very careful about putting wider tyres on standard rims ... they are designed to generally suit a certain size and sticking to the recommendations is generally best policy, besides it's not as if the bike needs it especially for the road ... putting a 190 tyre on a rim designed for a 180 will cause the 190 to be distorted to fit thereby altering it's characteristics ... I would have to say the sensible thing is to ignore anyone who says stick wider tyres on standard bikes ... my theory is it makes them think they are clever or know what they are talking about, "yeah mate stick wider tyres on and she'll handle better" ... what?? you mean she doesn't already handle out of this world, you know, being a fireblade and all ..lol

People can be lethal ..urghh!! /end rant

Oh and um, Welcome to CBRF!! :-)

thank you Jule, But if I change the rim to a standard 190 and of course replace the front also will it work. I know she is standard to a 180 but altering the tire will make it look meaner lol. I guess I'll just have to take your advice
cheers.

Are you doing it to make your bike handle better ?
It won't - it'll be "heavier" in the corners.
If you're doing it for looks .....the difference between the two tyres is 10mm which is just over 1/2 inch OVER THE WIDTH OF THE TYRE - you're going through all this for just over 1/4" either side, and with worse handling.

You'll do a lot better setting up your suspension properly for your weight, getting the static drop correct, and stiffening up the front forks a little with 5mm of oil either side.

Leave the "good looks(?) to others"
You don't think the Honda engineers didn't work out all the math before deciding a 180 was best ?
My wife has an old CB750 and around the suburbs she leaves my 1000F for dead - she has a 140 rear, with 70 horse power, I have a 180 rear with 130 horsepower.

Total waste of time IMHO. But then I've only been riding 44 years - what do I know..............

Thanks mate! You really put me off from thinking like that! great respect to your years of experience.
I need to know more about setting my suspension I just bought my CBR 900 rr (99). my weight is 138kg. and I am 6ft 4in. I don't look my weight as I look more solid in build.
My bike got both new tire I scrub the tire but the edges still not get their!! about 1/2 an inch. I wonder if my weight and the bike height make it impossible.
Or I just need to lean it a bit more.
thanks mate.

Default charging problem

check your regulater also my 900rr quit charging found the problem in the starter selinoid switch the red n white wire coming from the regulater runs to the starter selinoid to charge the battery to test put a jumper wire from the red white wire straight to the positive battery post should have 13volts at idle 14 to 15 volts @ 5000 rpm with highbeam on

Yeah 190 would make it turn in slower. you need to get another person to help you measure and set the sag in the suspension for your weight. with you holding the bike straight up, and with you sitting completely on it, front and rear sag difference should be around 1 1/8", same as chain slack so it's easy to remember. The charging problem could just be the battery if it's sat for a while. get it tested.
