So I just moved to a new city and my gym doesn’t have a good place to hold the helmet. Most people end up leaving them on the bike or on the seat or something.
I have been hanging mine over the handle but I am afraid of a strong wind knocking it down and then she's done.

I am not really worried about people stealing my helmet, lots of other people do it every day at the same location, some even leave it on the ground and no one touches it, so that’s no an issue

Just need some place to 'secure' it so it won’t fall or drop or anything

Any ideas?

the aircraft cable idea is good but that is too much work to lift the seat every time i go to the gym.

 

Well, if you're going to 'secure' it, why not actually secure it? ;-) Believe it or not, having an unsecured & dangling helmet is just asking for it to eventually be stolen. It only takes once. Your choice tho.

you are right, normally, yes totally.
but the gym is on base and at 6am i really dont want to mess around with keys and/or lifting seats and what not.

there is also a beaner with combo built into it, that attaches somewhere on the bike, maybe the 'holey s**t bar' in the back or what ever and then goes around the D ring on the helmet. that might be an option.

so no one else has ever done this? really? just a guy with some home made aircraft cable dipped in rubber? this site has a million users and i'm the only one doing this?

 

Only thing I would suggest, that hasn't already been made, is a cargo net.
You could hook it down on the seat to secure it and the ones made for helmets,
could probably be carried in your pocket. Just google "helmet cargo net",
Ones I saw were, mostly less than $10.



As far as GotCBR's suggestion, if you don't want to bother with securing it under
the seat, do the same thing and just clip it to the frame with the before-mentioned
carbiner. The cable/beaner combo would still be light/pocket-portable solution.

It is a good idea to avoid dangling it off a mirror, etc. The liner can be damaged by
the load concentrated that way, over time. Resulting in less than optimal protection,
if you do need it.

Other-wise, the clips you've shown look do-able.

You could go to just about any hardware store and pick up a cheap alumimum quick release hook. Run it through your passenger foot rest and just leave it dangle there. Then attach your helmet by the D-rings when you want to hook it up.

Or, you could replace your D-ring straps on your helmet with a set of quick release ones. This would allow you to quickly connect the strap around something on your bike and just let it hang by the strap itself.

But, if your not worried about anyone stealing it, the mirror would probably be fine. As long as you have the helment facing downward on the high side mirror, it would take quite a wind to knock it off.

I have been handing it on the mirror so far, and its working but it does look a bit wobbly and yes it might damage either the mirror or the liner.
I am going to look for a small beaner or quick release hook today from home depot.
Letting it hang there might be an idea too. As long as it doesn’t touch a whole lot of stuff as I’m riding around.
The net was also an option. I got one for caring stuff that I cant fit in my trunk and/or tank bag on the long rides.
I once held a water melon with it, kinda funny looking but it worked like a charm.

so i went to home depot in search of something to use, they have a quick release beaner, a lot like a normal beaner but the side opens to the side not depressed in. i got that and hooked it up to the passenger foot rest bracket, and used a cable tie to hold it in place so i wont flop all over the place and scratch stuff.

the D ring fits on there with ease and i can move it over to pick up the helmet.

you can buy the same thing at fabric land, or other hard ware stores i guess
most people use them as key chains but they work very well as light duty beaners like this.

 

Why not just hang your helmet directly off the left side passenger peg? Folds down for use, up when not and doesn't require threading something through the D rings.
