Has Anyone Used Cheap Cold Cathode Fans for Angel Eyes / Halos?
Hey guys,
I've seen the sites like "sportbikelites.com" selling cold cathode halo kits for $100 or so. They look awesome, but I haven't wanted to spend $100 to get them.
A friend of mine at work showed me a cheap, but awesome mod he did to his 3000gt/vr4 car a while back. The VR4 guys are peeling apart computer fans for the CCFL ring tubes that fit around their projector headlamps. The fans are supposed to come apart very easy and they are dirt cheap. Search "cold cathode fan" in Goggle and you'll find that they are like $6 on average. They conveniently run on 12v and have all of the little inverters/ballasts (or whatever voodoo magic that makes them work) that are required already with them.
Does anyone know what the diameter of the CCFL rings are that fit our bikes? Does anyone have their headlamps apart that can measure to see if the rings need to be bigger or smaller? The VR4 guys are using the 80mm ones because that's what fits their application. The fans come in a few different sizes and colors. Here's an example of some of the colors & such: http://www.dvhardware.net/review41_ccfangril.html
And a picture of the headlights from a VR4 with this mod done is attached.
Planning on doing this very soon.
