Default GEAR SELECTION PROBLEM

i HAVE A 1991 CBR1000f.when engine is cold the gear leaver will not return to its normal position,unless i give it a tap down with my foot.When engine is hot the problem gose away.Has anybody else exerienced this problem,dose it just need a oil change,or is it the return spring,is it a easy job,or is it a garage job.ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GRATEFULLY RECIVED,THANKS BigRich.

without sounding patronising.... have you tried just lubeing the lever??
bit of wd-40 or chain lube might just help free it up.
clean it all up first, check for any corrosion, if all looks healthy stick a bit of lube in and work the lever aorund a bit...
hopefully the simple things work the best for you

if it does it when cold, I'd look into fresh oil. cleaning and lubricating the assembly will certainly do it some good though.
