Gas in oil?
not my bike. its my step dads. its a katana 750 2001. his oil smells like pure gasoline. it has carbs so i thought it will either be something wrong with the needles or something inside the carb or maybe piston rings. any ideas?
a carburetor or two has an inlet needle that isnt closing all the way, and its letting fuel flow through with the motor off. the fix is simple, pull the carburetors, clean them thoroughly, and make sure the floats are set to the right height, then reassemble. I'm not familiar with teh fuel system on the katanas, but he might try turning the petcock to off when he isnt riding the bike.
also change the oil.
also change the oil.
not a problem. while you're at it, add a paper or porous copper/bronze media fuel filter inline between your tank and carbs. the cleaning part as you probably know is very easy if you're mechanical and from what you've posted, I assume you are at least semi knowledgable in carbs.
