Default Fuel Tank gasket fitment question

While checking my fuel pump over the winter, I reinstalled it too tight and caused the mounting bolts that hold the fuel pump assembly in place to stretch on the threads. The mechanic who worked on my bike broke one of them off, so I had someone weld new ones on. In the process, now the tank isn't holding fuel. Once I took everything apart again, I can see that the mating surface on the tank is not perfectly level. I think he warped it from the heat of welding. Anyone have any bright ideas on how to fix this? I haven't ridden in 2 months, and I'd like to schedule a trackday.

Suggestions?

if it's sheet metal you can't really grind the surface down flat. i don't know how silicone holds up to gasoline or if it would interfere with fuel flow or block passages, but when my oil pan gasket on my truck stopped sealing because i beat the **** out of the mating surface with a chisel and a screwdriver trying to get it off, silicone did the job. don't act on my advice though - i don't know if silicone would cause problems.

I went to the auto parts store to find a silicone like product to do a sealing job. The one I bought wasn't thick enough. It was the only one that specifically stated that it would withstand gasoline. The m/c shop said they it will not stand up to gasoline, even if I got it to work, eventually it would break down.

Anyone know of a suitable product to try?

Still looking for suggestions. 1 good one so far.

Just got something on there. Will know and be able to test tomorrow. I haven't ridden in 3 months now....I need a group hug.
Keep me and my bike in your prayers.

I'll keep the group updated. If this stuff works, I'll post up on it in case someone else needs something similar.
