Can someone tell me why I need to measure the fork oil depth after I put the exact amount of oil in my forks?

 

The amount of space for the oil to go when the fork compresses is crucial to work properly. The amount of oil the manual says may or may not provide the correct level, so the depth must be checked to ensure it's correct.
