Filling up the tank

Filling up the tank
Is there a trick to filling up the gas tank at the pump? The pump stops before the tank is full, I end up standing there for five minutes and sqeezing the pump looking like an idiot. The fuel gauge is one or two mark shy of full after each fill up. Does everyone have this problem or do I not know how to do it? Thanks.

RE: Filling up the tank
I assume you are keeping the end of the gas nozzle just inside the tank where the recessed fitting is located. The fitting I am talking about is the one that is below the opening and has the round hole that will allow you stick the nozzle through it. You should not fill up the tank past that flat "hole" fitting point. I'm not sure what it is called and I am to lazy to look it up.
There is no reason that you should not controllably be able to fill up your tank almost to the top by holding the tip of the nozzle just below the opening. Don't you use a similar technique to fill up your car?

Well, I'm always off the bike and it's on its stand. I jam the pump down the tank as much as it will go down, is that a mistake? I pretty much do it the same way as filling up my car. Most of the time the fuel level is about 2 inches below the inner hole when the pump begins to stop.
