F2 motor in a F3 Speedo hookup and not running right
I recently put a F2 motor in my 96 F6. No speed sensor on th F2 motor due to mechanical speedo on a F2.So the speedometer doesn't work and the bike cuts out and sputters when cruising at highway speeds. Not as bad around town, but still does it. When I'm on the gas the bike goes well, but doesn't like a steady smooth throttle. From reading other posts I'm thinking I need to find a GSXR speed sensor to put on the bike. Is that the best route? Or is there an aftermarket setup or drill and tap a sensor into the F2 motor? CAI setup on the bike is all hooked up correctly now. I read that that valve in the CAI system is controlled by the speedometer and it controls the air intake. Is fixing the speedometer my problem? The bike sat for a while so I cleaned the carbs, float, and jets. Maybe they need to be dissassembles and dipped? I also changed the plugs, fuel and air filters, checked the wires and checked the side stand. Am I on the right track? What else could be the problem?.
But a f2 motor doesnt have provisions for a speed sensor. Its not like you can just drill a hole somewhere and stick it in. You honestly have 2 correct solutions (1) buy an F3 motor (2) use an F2 CDI and wireing harness. Did you use F2 or F3 carbs on the motor?
I have the F3 carbs on the bike. I do have the F2 carbs, but the bike didn't run right with them on. They need a good cleaning. I have read in these post that a gsxr speed sensor can be installed on the countershaft sprocket cover. Is this true. It would be the cheapest and easiest fix. The thought of finding a F3 motor has looked to be an option. I got a good deal on the F2 motor, with very low miles, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I can always sell it.
I found this one for you since a search on here didnt help. http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/210570.aspx
Thanks for the link. I appreciate the help. I have some time to get that bike fixed. I ended up picking up a 97 F3 that needed work. I swapped some of my parts to th ebike to complete it and I'm set for now. I have to decide if I'm going to finish the old bike or part it out. Thanks again.
