Default exhaust noise

Hey so I have a loud noise on my 94 F2. I think it is coming from the exhaust, where it comes out of the engine. But I took off the header today and took a look and I couldnt see anything wrong with it. Other then the fact there is a broken bolt in the middle of the left side(bolt that tightens the exhaust to the engine. I checked my gaskets and watched it fire with the header off. (it kinda looks like it is firing in an almost random order, is there a way i can fix this?) I think I can smell some exhaust near the headers when the headers are on. I cant really tell if it still makes the noise without the header because it is so loud, but I was wondering if anyone might know what my problem could be.

get a new bolt, and a new gasket. Torque everything to spec and see if you still have it. You have a broken bolt on your header??? That could cause a leak and noise.....but really, seal everything up tight and that should be a great starting point.

Ya the previous owner laid it down and broke one of the bolts off and one of the gaskets came out (which i fixed when I got it) the bolt is broken off in the socket and i cant get it out with a vice grip. The sound had gone away after I replaced the gaskets but for some reason it is back and I cant seem to tighten the exhaust anymore (i dont want to break one of the bolts like i already did from over tightening) But the gaskets on the left side were not compressed very much where as the gaskets on the right where squashed in there. I think you are right about getting that bolt in but im not sure how i am going to get it out.

doesthe bolt come out of the block to bolt the header on instead of going in or the other way around?

if it's a bolt that comes out...that bolt can be turned out with vice grips and some pb blaster...after soaking some...if not...drill the thing out, but be careful not to go too deep, and then retap it with a bigger thread.

if it's the other way around, just retap with bigger threads.

get all new gaskets for each port.

If you have an angle grinder, Grind two sides of the bolt flat so that the vice grips have a better surface to grab. Or go to your local hardware store and buy an easy-out.

So i bought a drill and a tool that has reversed threads, but i cant get a good pilot hole to get the tool in. Is this just because i bought a pos drill? I already broke one drill bit. so i am going to look for more drill bits tomorrow. Any suggestions on how i could do this.

must have good tools, also make sureyou keep it lubed while drilling.if your careful you should be able to heat up the area with a torch and it should come out pretty easy. make sure the threads in the hole are good and tap if needed.

Dang I wish i had read ur post earlier... I tried the bolt remover and it broke of as soon as i got it to start threading. And now i can not drill through the bit of bolt remover tool that is stuck in there. I am getting super frusterated and i dont know what i am going to do next. You say that heat may help? Can i buy a torch from K mart or something? I would show you pics of what i am dealing with but i dont want to embaress myself with the damage i have done to the area surrounding the bolt. But any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

do not use heat. it expands the metal making it tighter. you have any pix?

I do this on a daily basis, i was not saying to heat the bolt, perhaps i was not specific enough. But if you heat up the area all around the bolt it will come out easier. When dealing with broken bolts in exhaust manifolds etc i do it all the time, get area around it glowing red and they fall right out almost. I said however to be careful because i assume we are dealing with the head, so just a little may help to ease it out but i would not want to get it to melting point as that could cause some possible damage.
