Default Engine knock... where to start?

Ok, so I braked too hard with the rear brake on a left turn and it locked up. I leaned into it but it spun the bike 90 degrees, and then it flipped over to the right and smacked down. I am a DIY'er but am new to bikes. There are no signs of breakage externally, (other than the fairing) but it is making a clicking/knocking sound and the oil light is not going off after startup. Any suggestions on where to start or what the most common types of problem are from this kind of circumstance. Start tearing it down? Look for a new engine?

Dude, where to start?, oil light my mean that you have done something to the oil pump, which could account for the knocking.
But light not going out could also be just an anomily from the stack, and you could have just damaged or knocked the wiring off the oil pressure switch. Bit early to start looking at a new motor. Just start by process of elimination. With an off, could be anything, did it fall on the gear lever?. I would drain the oil 1st, see if you have any metal in it, check the connections to your plugs, and electrics, and check the exhaust fittings, may have come loose. good luck

if your hearing loud clicking or knocking, i wouldnt run the engine at all until you find the problem, otherwise you will definetely need a new engine, id have to be there to tell, but if its how im thinking, it sounds like you arent getting any oil to the heads. like pacemaker said, process of elimination is how you figure it out,

I think your right about the head not getting oil to it. My suspicion is that the oil pump chain or sprocket or somthing to do with the oil pump is wrong. Do you know if I take off the right clutch cover, will I be able to see the oil pump chain/components without taking off the clutch. Also, how and where could the oil pressure be checked? Is it possible the oil pickup in the pan got damaged/ clogged in the wreck? I just want to get a better idea before I start tearing it down. Thanks.
