Default Engine dies at high speeds

Well let me just say that this forum has been a great help for me putting together my 1996 F3. The bikes rips through 1st 2nd and 3rd gears but when i get onto the freeway and put it into 4th 5th or 6th gear it acts like it running out of fuel.

Fuel pump works, just did the GSXR R/R conversion and works fine. Cleaned the carbs numerous times new fuel filter. The only things i haven't done is clean my K&N air filter and change the plugs. Could this be my source of the problem.

Also i know that i might get flamed but i didnt exactly tighten down the last two carb boots because i couldnt get to them (will be getting the right tool tomorrow) Could this be the ultimate source of the problem?

I am thinking the carbs are getting too much air above 65mph. If i pop it down to 3rd gear i can get some acceleration up to 11,000 rpms (with some struggling and sputtering/backfiring) then when i pop it into 4th it like it cruises no matter where the throttle is and slowly decelerates.

I posted here because i thought i could get more responses.

Air leaking past the carb boots could def. cause some problems. Another possible cause is your sidestand possibly being loose. If its rattling around at higher speeds, it could trip the sidestand switch, killing ignition. Also check your float level to ensure there's the correct amount of fuel in each float bowl.

If its sputtering/backfiring, then air is getting into your system from some wheres, tighten the boots properly & if it still happens, clean that filter & check your exhaust fittings as well.

Tightened the boots today and still the same thing. The exhaust is tight and i dont hear of feel any leaks. Now the last things to do are the plugs and the air filter.

Bumping for more opinions and updates.

Cleaned the filter and changed the plugs. Like i said earlier i tightened down the boots for the carbs so that is no longer an issue.

The bike HATES going above 65mph in any gear. When i put it in neutral at highway speeds it is very hesitant to go above 6,000 RPMS

I am guessing it has something to do with excessive air to fuel ratios. it idle it runs fine but a little rich. I can cruise just fine up to 55-65 on the streets. I am either gonna sync the carbs myself (to save money) or find a shop that can do them for me.
