Default dropped my bike :(

I was riding on campus, some jaywalker on her ipod decides that she doesnt need to look before rushing out onto the street out of nowhere. I grabbed a handfull and then the bike tips over on it's left side I see white steam coming from the front and coolant all over the floor. Picked it up and parked it off to one side. Took off the right fairing and there I see a hole in the coolant overflow tank. But can somebody explain this white steam?

Rode it back home (about a mile) watching the temperatures, and when I come to a stop, I notice some steam coming from the front end.....I hope my cooling system isn't fubar. Already ordered another reserve tank and should be coming in the day after tomorrow. I'm going to replace the reservoir but is there something else I should be worried about with the white steam? Thanks

some coolant probably got spilled on the headers. I wouldn't needless worry about it too much. take a good look around at the engine though just to be sure.

That sucks!!! +1 on the coolant, my funnel had a hole in it when I filled it last time, same thing happened! I wouldnt worry about it! But like KnightSlugger said, just do a good once ot twice over.

It's your biketelling you it's PO'd that it got dropped

Yeah it's probably coolant on the outside of the radiator and headers and stuff. Do you have framesliders? If not you should look into them, might have helped avoid this disaster.

well, all the coolant in the reserve tank is in the parking lot now.........I have a question when I reinstall the new reservoir, do I have to do a full coolant flush or can I just reattach the hoses and fill the reservoir back to "full"? Is there a certain type of coolant I need to use, or can I get the "universal (can mix with all types of coolant)" prestone from autozone and fill it up. Thanks for the replies, I'm hoping to ride again soon! The bus sucks!

no, you don't have to flush the coolant unless there is a problem with it. just attach the hoses, fill it up and let her go. you can fill the res. with distilled water. shouldn't take more than a cup or so.

However, you might as well flush it if it is anywhere near time to do so as many people neglect doing so...
