Default dashboard craziness, problem solved... i think!

So I had written earlier about the dash on my '04 F4i going crazy above 100mph at high rpm. When those conditions were established, all of the lights on the dashboard (fi, oil, neytral, turn signal indicator) would start blinking and the tach would go from red line to 0 and back until you let out of the throttle. Thought it was a ground but have been unable to locate any wiring problems.

After inquiring if any of you have had the same problem, I found that none of you had. I probably should have given more back ground info. but not sure if that would have helped.

Last September I found my self in a bad situation and poor judgement got the worst of me. Tried for a 1 in a million shot to get out of trouble but made things worse for me. Almost made it scott free, but didn't. I was able however to almost save the bike with the exception of 1 crack and a small bit of rash on the bike. My advice in these situations... WEAR YOUR HELMATE and throw away the bike. Better to total the bike than yourself!

Anyway, took the bike apart for minor repairs and maint. After finding many mounting points in the front clip were broken I then looked to the bike. The upper stay bracket that holds the dash, fairing, and mirrors was split in 2 down the middle. Not that bad though, still was in the right place and everything was still attached to it. The problem lies in what you can't see. With the bracket being split, it was basically a big tuning fork mounted to the front of the bike. Once the vibrations form high R's along with the 100+mph winds on the fairings and mirrors started flexing and shaking the stay bracket, it simply becomes too much vibration for the dash to handle then it starts going bonkers until the vibrations subside.

Simple, stupid, and trivial! Moral of the story...when you think you have repaired the damage, keep repairing. Now mostly blind since crash so I only attribute locating the problem to luck.

Our lives are in the hands of our bikes in the best of conditions, so make sure your bike is in the best condition it can be in, otherwise, leave it in the garage.

Sorry to bring up bad things in here but I think it is needed for 3 reasons...1) learn form my mistakes, wear you helmate!!! 2)Never TRY to save the bike if it is already almost gone. and 3)Even if you can't see the damage, that doesn't mean it isn't there.

I hope some part of this can help somebody. Take care and ride safe out there!

An easy fix would be to keep it in double digits. You say mostly blind, are being literal? If so, sorry to hear that, I couldn't imagine losing my sight.

Not really literal about blind, lost the sight in one eye but it was the stronger of the 2. Major mpact on life though. wear the helmates, a swift jolt to the upper eye brow can sever nerves... wish i would have known that!
