Cutting out intermitently

My CBR6F4i 2002 did a strange thing. She cut out every 5 seconds for about 15 miles on a longish (boring) ride to work. She was only dropping about 500rpm per drop oiut but it was a total drop out, she went dead for that split second and every 5 seconds or there abouts for 15 miles. Changing the rev range from 5-6 to 7-8 8-9 or 3-4 made no difference at all. When I had to stop for lights I was worried she would cut out totaly but to my suprise she did not, idled fine... Then repeated it again as I took off. She then stopped doing it about 2miles from my destination.
Any help will be apreciated if it is techmicaly correct.
THANKS....

Not much to go on. Could be fuel related or gas related.
From the description though, I'd say you may have had water in your gas. When water pools up in the float bowl, it does so right under the main jet. What happens is the water begins to be pulled into the jet, but being heavier, its harder to be sucked up. It then blocks the flow of gas and you get the resultant drop in rpms. The water then falls back into the float bowl, and the cycle starts over again. It was probably eventually sucked up, so the bike began to run fine. At idle, your carbs are using your pilot jet, which is in a different location than the main jet. Probably the reason the bike idled ok, but had issues when running higher rpms.
But just a guess.
