how often should coolant be changed. what sort of things should i do while the bike is garaged to have it ready for spring time?

every 2 years or 24000 miles, whichever comes first.

You are going to get many different answers for these types of questions.

I change my oil every 3000 miles and my brake fluid and coolant every 16000 miles when I check the valve clearance and change plugs.
