After I installed the springs, the clutch plates still don't seem to be under any tension.

Why is this? I can't see how the clutch would work this way.

What would cause this to happen? (unless this is somehow normal?)

 

Never mind, I figured out that the first (large OD) clutch plate needed to be alligned into the other, shorter trench-thing.
