Default clutch fluid change problem!

I spend $50 on a dam pump bleeder and there isnt an o-ring on the collector can!!!![:@] So I had to go old school and pump the fluid out with the lever. New fluid is in the holder and I'm pumping my hand off and I cant get pressure to build up. I've tried with the lid off and on. What am I doint wrong? I would have thought it would have been just like doing the brakes. Even if air is in the system it should still be able to build pressure and pump it out.

Open the bleeder and pump a few times. Then close the bleeder and bleed as normal.
