changing the fluid 4-5 times in a three gallon tank is gonna get expensive. i also gota have enough containers for the contaminated acetone. need to wait until its above 26 degrees so i can work with the garage door open also.
i'm gonna try hardware in the tank dry first.
flush with acetone twice.
coat inside with tank sealer.

2 cans on mieneral spirits will do 5 cleanings. You dont want to much in the tank with the washers. An alternative is to but a KBS tank sealer system. Its a 3 step process, rust remover, conditioner, and a coating sealer step. I,ve never done it but know people who have with excellent restults. I think it's about 50.

The mineral spirits and stove bolt method is cheap, quick and does work. Put a new fuel filter in line no matter what you do.

Hate to bring back an old thread, but there is some great advice on this thread.

I'm actually currently trying to bring a 94 F2 back into running order after having sat 3 years. So the tank should probably be cleaned out. And judging from the thread, it looks like different techniques and products were used by the different people. So I'm curious to see how everyone's tanks have been holding up so far for the last year and a half.

Is the acetone-only soak still holding up? Is there now rust building?

Or how are the different sealers holding up?

-edit-
One last thing, is it smart to put an in-line fuel filter on the F2? I don't see one already, I think the only filter is in the tank itself. Would the in-line fuel filter negatively impact the flow of the fuel to the carbs?

Check the flow rate of the filter, how much psi your fuel pump makes and make sure that number you get is enough for what the engine requires.

I don't think the F2's have a fuel pump, what they have is a gravity fed system that's controlled by a diaphragm connected to a vacuum line.

Just finished emptying out the gas tank and took some pictures... Can any F2 experts out there tell me the diagnosis? Do I need to do some hard time cleaning?

I noticed that there is a yellowish "ring" that goes all the way around the inside of the tank, almost like it was some type of deposit ring. Do F2 tanks come like this? Or is it varnish from the gas?

Thanks!
