Default checking chain

ok Ive heard sumthing about checking a chains side to side play.reason,the owner before me had a -2 front sprocket on it. sprockets look new so does chain just alot of slack. been adjusted back,no tight spots in the chain so i dont think its wore out i just think he real quick threw on a -2 on it W/ a stock size chain.bikehas 13/43 on it swaping to 14/45 roughly the same gearing just dont like the 13.Anyone know how to check a chain by its self? Thanks for any info or links couldnt find what i needed in search
