Oil checking
Hi everyone,
I wanted to check the oil level on my 1000FH. I thought that to check the oil you unscrew the cap and then you dip to check the oil. I did that and it was below the second line. I screw it and then remove it and was nominal level. There is a considerable debate on this: Do we check the oil level with the cap screwed on unscrewed. Can someone throw some light on this issue? Thanks

RE: Oil checking
I have an F3 that uses the same setup to check oil level. You have to hold the bike up straight (not on side stand). Without screwing in the dip stick, set the base as if you were going to screw the dip stick in. Once seated properly, just pull it out and read the oil level on the stick.

RE: Oil checking
i think of it like this.... would you rather check the oil screwed in and possible have the level little low.... or check it not screwed in and have the level a little high...
i know thats very generalized and not dead accurate.... but i would rather have a little to much oil then not enough....
AKA... i would check it unscrewed....
