Hey, Just got my permit and got my 04 CBR 600rr all legal on weds. (ap. 29th). I apologize if this seems like a stupid question, but i need to figure out what the PROPER way is to take my old handlebar grips off and put new ones on. Ive researched it on the interent and found different ways for each. So im inquiring to figure out what the right way is from someone who knows haha. Some of the directions i found say "Consult user manual for the throttle side" problem is, i dont have one of them, but im in the process of lookin for on off ebay. If someone can instil the appropirate knowledge in me it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks a lot

 

The best method is to use compressed air to blow the grip off by directing it in between the clip-on/throttle tube and the grip. If you're like me and don't own an air compressor, you can take a shish-kabob stick (or similar), wedge it under the grip about 3/4 ways in, then place the WD-40 straw in next to it and give it a blast. Remove the stick & straw, and it'll slide right off. You can cut them off too.
I found that rubbing alcohol removes the remaining adhesive good, but it's still a pita to take off.
Installation was the easy part. I sprayed the inside of the grips with hairspray along with the clip-on/tube, and they slid right on, allowing for adjustment. Squeeze excess liquid out & allow to dry overnight.

 

i usually cut mine off. just cut in half and peel right off. and i use air to blow them back on. same way he described just blow the other way.

 

ive done the hairspray thing with grips for a dirtbike.. but i didnt know if it was the same things... theres nothing i should do different with the throttle grip? Thanks a lot to you.. and to everyone who replied. the more input the better.. its greatly appreciated.

 

No, just make sure you leave enough clearance on each side so that it doesn't bind against the bar-end and the throttle housing.
