Default Changing clipon?

wuts up everyone. Well I had layed my bike down in october, and other than some rash on the plastics all it needs to be ride-able is the right clipon and right rear set pegs. I ordered a manual from honda but havent got it in yet, so i figured id ask for some tips or suggestions on changing the clipon. From what i understand im going to be lowering hte forks, which ive never done before. I assume this means ill need to remove the front wheel, and i also assume that this would be a good time to change the pads as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on lowering the fork tubes? Anything else im going to need to watch out for or pay close attention to while doing this? Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, after the accident, i noticed that when i run the bike, it will idle fine, but when i rev it up a little bit ill get a slight backfire / pop that was never there before the accident. I was thinking maybe a cracked plug or something? Anything off the top of the head for anythink else to check i may have not thunk of? Thanks again. Kyle

I layed mine down mid November. Same thing with me, my right handlebar took a pretty beating. Even thou it was ground down, the throttle still operates. I bought a set of forks to replace mine (not because I layed it down), so when I do that, I'll be able to remove-put a new one on. I'm putting it back piece here and there. I just have not got to the forks yet.
I'd search around. I remember seeing some how to's about removing the forks. Give you an idea in whats involved anyway. Your going to need front head lift stand. Or like someone here posted, they used a tow strap type a thing and secured it from a rafter above, then to the bike.
If I'd have done this already, I could give you some pointers. Shouldn't be too bad of a job. I'm sure someone here has been down this path before.
Heh, broke my right rear set too! And right mirror, and wind screen, and front brake lever, and......

i could be wrong but the "popping" sound your hearing is deff. backfiring....and that could come from so many different things. line leakage, bad plug, bad fuel pump, bad sensors......u really just have to go by trial and error......unless someone else knows a better way....

tips or suggestions on changing the clipon.
Seems like the easyest way to replace a clipon would be to remove the stearing head nut and slide the upper triple clamp off.

yeah the top tripple usually comes right off, just loosen the pinch bolts for both forks and take the steering head nut off. The lower tripple will hold the forks in place, just loosen the bolts for the clip-on and slide it off

Hey thanks for all the advice and responses guys. sorry its been a few days since ive been able to check up on here! busy *** work schedule, I do HVAC and now that the weather is getting colder everyones damn rooftop units decide to break on the coldest days. bah!. But yea the pop is definitely a backfire. Im hoping that the impact when i layed it down just cracked a plug or something. Im going to start with changing plugs and wires. Probably needed to be done anyways. So the top triple clamp will come right off with just removing the steering head nut and loosening the bolts huh? my neighbor told me id have to drop the forks down a few inches to do what i need to do . I cant wait to ride again. I havent been on the bike since friggen october. Im getting ansy. i would have fixed it in the fall if ihad known id have been able to ride til january! the weather stayed so warm around here til just a few weeks ago. Anyways, thanks for all the help. Ill keep updated.

I just changed my left clip-on. Took the top trip-clamp off (as mentioned above) and it came right off. Put the bar on, the trip-clamp. Tighten trip-clamp and then tighten the bar. Took all of 15 minutes. Easy greasy.
