Chain Maintenance? Or is it something else?
Hello
I bought a pretty old , but awesome CBR 600 1999 with only 11000 miles on the clock from a pretty large bike shop in the UK. It has a micron exhaust, and sounded absolutely fabulous. However, about 2 weeks ago I a funny noise came up, which hasn't gone away.
You hear it at its worst when the bike is slow moving, and it is a repeated noise, almost every time the wheels turn (its like a clack clack noise) and I thought it was the front wheel, however I then started thinking it was the engine, as the engin sounds very "tinny" now.
Also, the low gear accelleration is not what it was either a month ago. I checked the chain though this morning, and it is rather loose, if I push it up, I now touches the body cover about 1.5-2 inches up. Could this be the problem? Any help appreciated.

sounds like you have a problem with your chain. Adjust the chain and oil it real good and see what happens if the problem presist then check your bearings. But this sounds alot like my chain did before it popped on me (what an experience that was) so take care of it ASAP.

Thanks for that. I heard that it is pretty simple to tighten the chain. I'm just a little concerned to fiddle, as I am inexperienced.
Also, do you just use normal oil, or do you get specific chain oil? Sounds a little daft I know, but Im new to this.
Cheers

you use chain lube or chain wax.
oil will fling off, lube/wax have less fling.
just loosen the rear axle nut...adjust the two screws located at the very end of the swing arm...even rotations on both side...you'll want to go counter clockwise just a little bit...then torque the rear axle bolt down to 69 ft-lbs...or dunno in NM
