Is there something wrong with this picture?

I just had a new Chain and Sprockets installed by a shop. 700km later, I just noticed this! [:@]
It looks to me like they didn't move the wheel forward before cutting and installing the chain.
So, now I have no adjustment available!

that's a brand new chain? did they install the correct number of links?

Yeah looks like they didn't reset the wheel position before they replaced the chain. The chain isn't trashed, you'll just need (or the shop that did it will need) a new master link and remove prob. one link, maybe two (once they adjust the wheel position, of course).

 

Ok, there are 108 links on there now.
Stock for CBR 600 F4 is 110. I have -1 tooth on the Front Sprocket, Rear is Stock 45 teeth.

So, you think they can just shorten it?
Would I be right if I asked them to do it for free and provide a new master link?
Does the master link also have to be EK?

They should do it for free. You are already into the 'replace' space. There should be some kind of warrentee for this? right? good luck.

 

Why would you shorten the already shortened chain?

Take it back to the shop and point out their mistake. They should replace it for free.

ALWAYS look over work before you take it home from a shop. A chain is one of the simplest things to change... I'd invest in some stands. They'd pay for themselves after one or two chain/sprocket swaps.

I try to do as much as possible to my bike because A) I'm a cheap bastard and can't stand paying someone to do something that I can do, and B) because of crap just like this.

You're basing yourconclusion on the position of the chain wear indicators. Well, thechain wear indicators assume a certain length chain and certain size sprockets.

Once you change sprocket sizes, those chain indicators are useless!!!!!!!!! if you look at the chain tensioners themselves (not the chain wear indicators), its quite clear that you have plenty of adjustment for this chain.

No, you cannot shorten it. Changes in chain lengths must be done in increments of two links at a time (one inner link, and one outer link). To shorten this chain would require the removal of two links. This would make the chain way too short!

The chain is installed properly! Do not go to the shop raising a stink...you'll only embarass yourself.

Yup, like abad said, the wear indicators are a distance that you should adjust a stock chain. Just make a mental note of where the chain is at now, and replace it once it is stretched enough that you have adjusted it that half inch that the wear indicator shows. The only time a new chain is going to line up with the new mark is when you use stock sprockets anda stock chain.
