Cbr F4 Overheating Please Help
My F4 is overheating when I am in stop and go traffic. When I am on the open highway it seems to maintain temp. Whenever I stop at a red light the gauge creeps upward and get fairly close to the red line once I start to move i drops a little. My fan seems to kick on at the right time. I just changed oil (mobil 1 full synthetic), coolant is new a "burpped" the air out of it by running it for a little wit radiator cap off. I also checked thermostat and it opens at about 190 degrees which corresponds with the clymer book. Also when bike gets hot it also seems to run hard and I have to short shift. I am at a road block here and need some help. Thanks.

what makes you think its overheating? are you seeing antifreeze? is it steaming?
All bikes will increase in temp very quickly once they are no longer moving. The cooling system on these bikes are very small and cannot keep up with cooling unless their is air moving through the radiator. If your not seeing anti-freeze or steam and the fan is kicking on, your probably fine.
If it eases your mind at all. My bike runs at 180F while cruising. If I stop at a light, it will go fast up to 215 then that fan will kick on. It doesn't take long either. If I'm going slow through traffic, it will be at 212-215 all the time and the fan will kick on a lot.

I feel its over heating because the gauge comes very close to hitting the H and sometimes does. Also I have to short shift once it gets that hot. For example when bike is cool I can hit 30 mph easy in 1st gear but when hot I can barely hit 20 mph cause at about 5 grand the bike feels like its going to blow if I don't shift.

If a coolant hose was split, you're probably low on coolant. The F4 won't overheat in traffic, even just sitting there idling at a stop when it's 105 - 110 out (I know this because mine's done that within the last week w/o overheating), and that's with 50/50 coolant/water.
Perhaps you have something (partially) blocking your radiator. Perhaps your thermostat needs to be replaced. Perhaps your radiator cap needs to be replaced. Perhaps you have scale or other build-up in the system. Perhaps you have a tiny hole(s) in the radiator, or another hose problem. Perhaps your radiator fan isn't functioning correctly. All these are things to check.
