What do you guys recommend to use for carb bowl sealant. I used one of the Permatex that said it was for gas...what a mistake. Thanks

your not going to find a good liquid sealant. the best thing you can do is use the proper gasket. If you can't locate the gasket, you can buy a gasket sheet and cut your own.

Do you think I could use the gasket sheet in conjunction with the old gasket? The carb body mounting surface is flate but the bowl surface has a groove that the original o-ring style gasket fits into. The current gasket is pretty much flush in the groove. Thanks

Its usually not a good idea to stack gaskets. They generally leak and do not seal well to each other.

I didn't realize you were talking about o-ring style gaskets. You may have to buy an oem set if your current ones are leaking.

however, depending on how the gasket is shaped. You may be able to buy some o ring material. Shape it into place of the bowl as long as it has a deep enough groove, cut the material to length and superglue it together. If you slice the material on a 45 deg angle, then super glue it, it will hold up fine once the bowl is holding it in place. Just overlap the material, then with the material layed in the bowl looking down on it, cut the 45 deg cut through both so you have a clean perfect length tubing. Also, by doing this, you have doubled the area for the glue to adhear and seal. I've done it in the past with great results when complex o-rings were not available.

Once you measure what size you need, go to ebay and type in o-ring material. You'll get a lot of different sizes and hopefully one will work for your application. You may be able to find at the autoparts store as well. I actually found mine at a local hardware store.

Permatexx makes a gasket sealer in a small brown bottle that is specifically for gasoline,I think it's called Indianhead or something.
