can i put a 520 chain on a stock sprocket?
i bought a brand new 1000rr and want to replace the chain with a 520 chain, now do i need a diff sprocket. the bike has 10 miles on it. i dont want to replace the sprocket just chain
you can't do that...520 chain you'll have to run a 520 sprocket.
what's wrong with the chain the bike came with? it's brand spanking new mang!
switching to a 520 isn't going to do much for your 1KRR.

Don't believe all that bs hype about switching to a 520. If your wheel is properly aligned, you should be able to freehand spin it like once or maybe twice. You're not going to gain much of a difference in less friction. Honda put that 525 or 530, can't remeber, chain on there for a reason.
Spend your money on other things... your chain & sprocket will wear out soon enough.
If you want to re-gear then for quicker get-go, then simply swap out a 1-tooth small counter sprocket (front). If you go bigger in the back then you might need a very slightly longer chain. Do that in 20,000 miles. In the mean time save money/spend money on other bling/go fast goodies.
Cheers

I ran a 520 on the 1kRR for about 5K miles. Sprockets were -1/+1 with aluminum rear. Held up well and the machine came alive. Kinda buzzy on the interstate though and gas mileage did suck. Went back to stock for those reasons. If I ever get back to the track I'm puttin the 520 back on it.
