bike lift
Hello all,
Im thinking of getting my boyfriend a motorcycle lift for christmas. He has a 1000rr and I have a f4i. I really know nothing about these lifts, dont want to get him some piece of shiiiit. I would welcome any advise and information that you may have. I have looked at a couple on e-bay, huge price differences, but not sure about the real difference in product.

RE: bike lift
I don't know your garage situation, but I use a chain hoist. I then use up too 6 ratchet straps to lift the bike at various points. I am able to lift the entire bike to where I can stand and work on it. I can also lift the ends of the bike individually. In addition to the hoist and straps, I also purchased a heavy duty chain which I rapped around a rafter. Sorry, I can't recall the size of the chain I rapped around the rafter. It was strong enough to handle way more then 450 pounds, six foot length, and would still fit in the hook on the hoist. Then I just took the hook closest to the mechanism and hung it. It has been there for about 7 years now. I use this thing ALL the time and I think it is way better then a stand. I just pull the chain one way and the goes up and pull it the other way and it lowers. Very simple to use! My whole setup cost was about $250 (chain hoist, chain, and straps). I bought my chain hoist locally but I have included a link so you can get a visual on about what I am talking about. I just want to put this out, you should be sure that the rafter can support the additional weight. My setup is in an old flower mill, so the timber I have the chain rapped around is BIG. Of course you won't need a timber from 1850 to do this setup. A steel I beam works great or a rafter with the dimension of 4 x 8 would be sufficient. Thought I would put another method out on the table.
