Question Best Place to Look For....

Ok so I recently bought my first honda, its a 2k CBR 929.
The bike was dropped back in 06 and the plastics have all been replaced with what i think is cheap chinese crap, the left lower has melted because there is no heatsheilding on the inside. The fitment isnt the best and there are pieces missing i think.

so my questions are as follows:

where can i get a good set of fairings, complete for not a whole lot of cash. And maybe the stays as well because i dont know but think they may be bent.

Also i think the subframe is a little crooked, i would also like to replace it, so if anyone knows a good source for 929 or 954 parts, could you let me know.

Also this bike has 73k kms on it (45k miles) It runs great, no issues as i can tell, but does anyone know how far these things will go on what i assume to be an original engine? assuming all the maintainence was performed at the appropriate times?

Thanks.

If you think your fairing stay is bent, replace that before you buy other fairings. The chances are pretty good that with it bent, not even factory fairings are going to line up well. As for finding new fairngs cheap, about the only route you can take is is cheap china fairnings, Race fairings, or keep an eye on ebay and pick up pieces one by one. Generally, if there is a whole set, you will probably pay more for it. The same goes for fairing stay and the rear sub frame. ebay is about the best place there is to find used parts.

as far as how long they will last given properly maintained... I'd say well over 100,000 miles before any major work may be needed. Major work meaning anything above and beyond the scheduled maintenance. They really arent that much different than a car when it comes to longevity, other than needing more maintenance. the only reason you see so many bikes with low miles is not many people ride them. Plus, the stigma about bikes has been anything over 20,000 miles and its ready to blow up. Its just not true, these bikes will run for a very long time. This false belief is just reinforced by people who just don't know any better. Plus, most sportbike riders don't tour with thier bikes, so the mileage just doesnt add up and people don't see sportbikes very often with high miles, so people think they don't make it that far.

having said that. there are things you will want to keep in mind with your bike. Like checking the head bearings and also the wheel bearings. Not that they will be bad, but its a good mileage to start watching out for certain things. Also, if they havent been checked yet, check the brakes, the chain and sprockets... ect.. the usual wear items.

Cool, I have 2 gsxr's and they are higher mileage around 65k kms. And o e needs a trans
that's why I was curious, I already have new wheel bearing and everything
I can see looks to be good. I just wanted to know how the cbr's longgevity
stacked up!

I scoured eBay and I can't seem to find many parts although I did find
upper and lower fairing stays, guess I'll keep looking.

Has anyone any experience with the Chinese fairings?
Fit,quality,finish?

Thanks
