What was used in it before you bought it. Honestly I think the best is to stick to what has been run in it the entire time the previous owner had it. if they werent using synthetic its not a good idea to start now because converting this late could cause problems. I personally use Amsoil 20w50 in my 02 f4i, also used it in everything else I have ever owned without a single problem. a little costly but IMO worth it. If you have no idea what they used its a coin toss on wether to use regular oil or synthetic. Amsoil, and Mobil 1 would be my 2 top choices in oil, with amsoil on top because it is made for use with a wet clutch setup. I ran mobil1 synthetic in my 04 wrx sti with no complaints also, just dont know how good it would be on a wet clutch. may cause it to wear early

You'll get varying opinions on what the "best" is.

I use Mobil 1 15w50 auto synthetic oil.

I don't think that going to a synthetic would cause any problems as previously suggested.

It depends on the mileage on the bike. To my understanding synthetic oils work soo good that they dont let the motor wear near as much as regular oil its like microoil that gets into every nook and cranny of the motor. so if you use regular oil for a long period of time the motor may have a little bit more wear on it where the change to synthetic will actually have the oil leaking past seals and rings and such. This is just what i have been told I am no professional. I would say any of the top line oils are great. I would say as long as your changing your oil regularly with at least what honda recomends you will be fine.

you won`t have any problem with semi-synthetic, just make sure whichever oil you use is a brand name (not made by walmart) and meets the spec for a motorcycle engine. your choice mate.
