I'll check it out. Thanks for the info. Where do you suggest I get a rectifier? Will another model fit? Looking for performance and price. Thanks again for all your help guys

Hi. The rectifier converts alternating current from the alternator into direct current so that it will charge the battery. Another test you can try without a multimeter to see if your battery is being charged, is to get the bike started using a set of jump leads off another battery then switch the headlight on, rev the engine and watch to see if the headlight increases in brightness. This will confirm that the battery is getting a charge, but not how much. The best way is as I described earlier using the multimeter across the battery terminals. If you don't get a voltage of 13.5/14.2volts then there is something wrong with the charging system which is covered on this forum. A faulty rectifier would cause overcharging of the battery, because it would be allowing the full output of the alternator to go to the battery. Hope you sort it out.

Ok... so when im driving home at night, my light get's more bright as I apply more RPM's. At idle, the light seems to dim a bit. So I still think im getting charge. After reading all ur posts, seems like the rectifier might be going bad. Heres my next question. Do I have to get one specifically for the 94 cbr900? Or is there another r/r that would be better/cheaper/more reliable? Thanks again for all ur guys help.

do not use the oem rectifier, it is a piece of ****.

search it. I have posted in a rectifier megathread some where. make sure your bike uses the same type of rectifier pin out, ie 3 alternator wires 1 ground and 1 12V is the most common.

get a clymer/haynes.

also test the voltage at you battery wiht the bike running if it is 16+ you definiently have a faulty regulator, that has probably destroyed your battery.if your battery reads >13v with the bike off your rectifier is bad.

I would advise you not to jump your bike off another vehicle, as you may damage the other vehicle if your rectifier is bad.

This weekend, im going to clean out the stator too. Guy I talked to the other day when I was getting a vent for my helmet said that if the barrings have stopped moving freely, it causes the stator to take a bit extra power from the battery that is not there. Ill keep you all posted.

A faulty rec can overcharge( fry it) and undercharge( drain it) the battery... Im having numerous fried rectifiers after changing out my bad stator to new aftermarket one ( ive read that aftmark stators put out 10-20% more voltage)... I'm down to doing a r-1 rec swap... Much larger unit much better heatsink

Im having similar issues. Battery will stay charged fine for a couple days and be dead the next.
I am using a trickle charger to bring it back up. I have 2 R/Rs ordered (one from our forum and one from fleabay).
Right now as it sits I just got back from a 30 mile ride and the battery is reading a 12.01 (engine turned off) on the multimeter.

So bike completely died when riding home tonight. :/ fail. Still gas, lights come on, try to pop clutch and doesn't turn over. Bike started to sputter when it died. Grrrr. So getting a charger tomorrow, and ordering r/r. Hope it all works.
