battery gets boiling hot. help!
I 'll try to keep this brief and I 've also tried to search it and no luck , but one day I was out for a ride , I rode for about three hours or so got home and smelt a funny smell. It was coming from the battery. The battery was so hot I couldn't touch it. I got a lot of info on the charging system from the search but nothing on a boiling hot battery. Any suggestions thanks.
If your battery was that hot I would check your regulator/rectifier - a standard sign of failure is boiling the battery (until it's dry)- after that the Reg rec will cook, and then the stator/alternator.
Have it looked at SOON and check battery water

Ok will do. I'll start with the R/R ,I found a good fault finding chart on the electrosport website. I charged the battery and it holds a charge at about 13.4 volts so I guess its ok far as volts go ,but yea I'll check the R/R and make sure that the stator and harness are ok and thanks for the info.
was that voltage at rest or running? if that was not running , that voltage is high. as Shadow said , check your rectifier, as it is letting too much voltage thru to your battery and plate warpage in your battery will result and a short life is in its future!
Yea, I Had the battery out when I checked the voltage.I double checked it and it said 13.4 ,It's held that for a while. But when the battery first got boiling hot I let cool then took it out . The next day I put it back in and it would barley turn the starter I hadnt rode bike since , but charged the battery and thats when I got 13.4. I may have over charged it. Poor battery. Between me and the R/R the battery is probably toast.
CHECK THE BATTERY CHARGE IN THE BIKE !!
13.5 - 15.5V (when flat) is fine.
Check the wiring around the reg/rec for signs of burning.
I've been this route and if things start to burn -it get's expensive.
Of course if you were running the bike with low water level, that would also give you a very hot battery.....................
Good luck
