I have recently pulled out a thin shred of glass from between the center treads on my front tire. I plugged it and it holds the air pressure just fine. I have been riding on it for a couple of weeks now.

From what I have read and having spoken to a few experienced motorcyclists, it may not be a good idea to plug a front tire. I too was concerned at how thin the tire is.

Is anyone else out there riding around with a plugged front tire?

Has anyone heard of anyone crashing as a result of it?

I ran around for a few hundred miles with a pluged rear tire on a F3 till I got the cash to replace it.

 

It does not make you a squid, but a plug is a temporary fix...I was riding a FZR600 from South Carolina to Sacramento and I had to plug a tire..it made it the whole way, but it was just freeway riding, no wheelies and such

 

I had a Ninja 600 a while back and bought a new D208 for the front. Not even a week later, I get a screw in the front tire. Being the first time I got a screw or nail in a tire, I thought i'd plug it just like a car tire. It worked. The ride was a hair bumpy at first until the plug wore even but it held. 8 months later, the plug was still holding and I sold the bike to someone else with great results. Now...if your tire is thin...don't even try it. A plug is a temporary fix. But since my tire was new was the only reason I plugged it. It's not worth an accident to chance it. If you think that you should change the tire...do it. We'd rather hear about you getting a new tire and hittin' some awesome curves than hear about you wiping out because your bum tire blew.

 

yep that happen to me too..brand spanking new and 2 days later i get a screw...plugged it and still riding with it in

 

gotta agree with the last two. Got a huge nail in my rear tire a couple weeks after I installed in, plugged it w/ a kit from pep boys, and rode on it for about 8k miles, no problems... Make sure you follow all the instructions to a T, and you should be good to go.

 

The urge to plug a new tire with a hole in it is strong. I went through a phase where I put a hole in 3 tires in 2 months (1 old and 2 brand new). I took a healthy hit to the wallet but I'd do it again. Now I always keep my next set of tires handy so no waiting.

 

I've never plugged a front tire; if it's a mushroom style plug I won't see why not. As the others have said it's a temperary fix (esp. with all the load the front bears vs he rear).

I have plugged rear tires with mushroom style plugs and have never had a problem, even after putting thousands of miles on them. In each & every case it was a newer tire with 1K or fewer miles on it.
