Aluminum Sprocket: Am I ok?
Recently I bought a set of Vortex sprockets for my f4i. I wanted to stay stock with the # of teeth so I am at OEM config. with a new DID PRO chain... am I going to be alright with an aluminum rear sprocket? Any experiences?... Remember I am stock configuration so the torque isn't as high and I have a new DID chain.
Aluminum sprocket won't last as long as a steel but with proper chain maintenance it'll give you 10K miles. I ran one on a Busa for over 8K and had no problems. Peeps breaking off teeth usually have way too much slack in the chain.
Though seemingly obvious, it's critical that your chain be truly aligned... not just sorta' ball parked. The Al doesn't hold up to side loading as well with a mis-aligned chain.
Also, don't just lube... clean & lube the chain & sprockets.
Cheers

FYI on the aluminum sprockets... Vortex makes one that has a hardened coating for higher wear protection. I am still confident in the one I bought being necked, but these might be more for you... The one I saw is black.. I think that is the only color due to the nature of the coating. Thanks for the feedback guys
