Default 97/ F3 clutch issues

Bought my bike off a young man...was working fine then I noticed it starting to slip... I adjusted the cable at the bottom took all the slack out at the bottom... Adjusted at the top so there's any 1/8th of an inch of play.... After I properly adjusted was working fine and not slipping... So mind you after not being adjusted properly....the plates have to be worn especially after being ridden abused w out being adjusted properly... So I took it to the city yesterday... Chicago... A lot of stop and go traffic.... As I was leaving the city my bike started slipping again this time really bad... I rode for awhile to get as far as I could and when I felt it was going too slow and getting too hot i pulled over... Looked at the bottom and the nuts to adjust the cable had been loose and I had riding like that for a few miles... I readjusted everything.. And the bike was still slipping.... I'd put into gear let the clutch out the bike would not move and die after a few seconds without throttle... Will adding new plates fix this?? Did I damage my engine or trans w overheating from continuing to ride?

You'll most likely be fine - the CBR600's are practically indestructible unless people start chopping up the wiring etc. A new set of plates is ~$35 and half an hour to install. I would change the oil at the same time.

Thanks for such a quick reply brother💯 That's what I figured.. Indestructible.. just wanted to be sure I didn't screw anything up💯 where do you get your plates from for 35$😬? I just bought mine for 70$... Before I'd pay 200$ like a rookie🤦‍♂️.. Oil was a good tip to, thanks.

Amazon, where else?

Amazon Amazon

You probably bought a much better set though - and maybe bought the steel plates as well? Yours might be burnt, change them if they are worn.

Clutch is lubricated with engine oil which is why I suggest changing it at the same time - to get rid of all the burnt clutch, plus (AFAIR) you have to drop the oil to change the clutch anyway...

Also how long do you think clutches typically last? I've heard 3-5k miles w heavy riding abuse... And like 20-30k if your a casual rider barely ride..

If you don't slip them and abuse them, they last forever - mostly bikes don't last as long as their clutch.

If it looks nasty, or smells of burnt clutch, change it for sure.
