RE: 500 mile tune up
What they should do would include an oil change, valve check/adjust if indicated, check all fluids and top off if needed, check and adjust all cables if needed, check air pressure/tires and put a wrench of every nut and bolt they can find to be sure things are tight. They should also investigate and concerns that you have that might indicate a potential problem. I have found all kinds of things loose at 600 mile services including loose and missing bolts on the rearsets, loose exhaust, loose axles, oil leaks, misrouted wires/cables...the list goes on.
What they will likely do is change your oil and probably tell you everything is ok w/o checking much if anything at all.
You don't have to have the dealership perform the first service. It can be done by any competent mechanic/individual and not void the factory warranty.

RE: 500 mile tune up
Yeah my 600RR is due for it's 600 mile checkup pretty soon. They cover everything from oil, to tranny, to tire pressure. They want $275? Damn, They only want $70 from me. I can do all of this stuff with my eyes closed... but this is my first sportbike and I figure for $70 I might as well have them take a look.

RE: 500 mile tune up
They Probably won't do most of the things they should. They will change your oil and check some things like cables, etc. You can get your oil changed your self and save your receipts. That will keep your warranty in effect. out of five bikes, I have never brought one to the dealer for a first service. Its a major waste of money. I have never had a problem either. Just keep your bolts and screws tight because they do like to loosen up. even after 1000 , 2000 miles , etc... thats normal.
