2001 f4i leaking oil
hello guys this is my first post so dont rag on me 2 bad if a mess something up
ok well i got this bike 2 weeks ago its got 15,xxx miles on it
got it home and went for a ride (longer then the test ride) and noticed some oil on the right side where the clutch cable ends
so i checked the oil in it and it is high so i took off the right side faring to clean the oil and noticed that there is more i could see just inside there (between the frame and the cover) so i cleaned it off and started it for a wile and none leaked when it was idling it but i took it for a ride and there was more oil again
so i dont know if its because it is over filled and coming out of where the clutch cable ends and goes down into the motor anyone had this happen to them? ( i also tightened 9 or 10 10mm bolts on the cover and the motor to see if that would sop it)

RE: 2001 f4i leaking oil
i have looked at it with a flash light and cant seem to tell where it is coming from
might i have to take the tank off to tell if that is the problem or not?
in the manual it says i have to take the throttle body off to change the CCTL
and i dont want to just jump into doing that if i dont have to

RE: 2001 f4i leaking oil
theres a possibility that the oil is coming from the fill cap. There is an o-ring on the cap that can become split if tightened too tight. this will allow oil to purge up past the oring. Since you are driving, the air will scatter it all over the place.
A call to the previous owner would be in order. he may have had something apart. If he did, thats a good place to start to make sure what he split apart isnt leaking. A big mistake people make is over tightening bolts. All of the components are aluminum and have been surfaced to fit perfect and require minumum torque to seal. use the suggest torque specs whenever your can. gaskets will become split, component can become warped, this will all lead to oil leakage.
I'm not sure how you are checking your oil, but make sure your doing the proper steps. I've seen a lot of people do it improperly and not get correct readings on oil level.
