Default 19965 cbr 600 sat for three years

I have a cbr 600 f3 1996. should i follow the how to section wheb cleaning my carbs and jets even though that is on a f4 2000 bike? I did it once 6 years ago but have since forgot how to do it. Would you recommend just taking it in to a mechanice since the bike has been sitting for three years?

If you know how to do it, or can do it yourself, under NO circumstances shall you spend your hard earned money on an overpriced mechanic.

if the bike hasnt been run in awhile, change all the fluids, drain the fuel and put fresh in it after cleaning the tank and carburetors. oh and replace the fuel filter while you're at it, or install one. trust me, they save lots of headaches.

No reason to let a mechanic rob you if you can do it yourself.

Be safe and have fun.

The boys have covered it all. I'd just add this:
Go onto u-Tube - look under CBR1000F - they had a bike that had been standing in a shed for 5 years, and had it running in an hour or so !
Save your money- DIY is best, because then you know how to do it in future, and can help others.....
Let us know how you fared.
Good luck !

just take your time and follow the how to. The bottom post by yours truly on the first page is cleaning the idle jets on a 1998 f3. Do this for both the main and idle jets. but be sure to keep them in order of which cylinder they go to!!

Good luck..again just take your time. Its worth it..plus you get the knowledge and experience again

rinoleg, if you don*t feel like working on your carbs or just want advice, let me know. I just finished rebuilding my 97 F3 which included the carbs this last summer. So working on the carbs is fresh in my memory and I have the necessary tools such as a carb sync & etc. I am in the DC area.

If the throttle moves ok try putting fresh gas in the tank and starting it. It's possible that the carbs were drained before storage and don't need cleaned.
