Hey guys I have a question for you. My buddy has a CBR600 F2 and he is having trouble shifting the bike. He says that he can not shift into any gear besides neutral. He thinks that the clutch plates need to be replaced is not full sure what it needs. It runs well just will not shift into any gear besides neutral. What do you guys think that this bike need? Does this sound like a clutch plate or a transmission issue? Or just a linkage problem?

Has the bike been stood for any amount of time, has he got pressure at the clutch lever

 

The bike has been sitting for a little bit. And he does have pressure in the clutch lever. But I would say that it has not been sitting for more than a year though. Probably only about 7 months at the top.

 

Has he tried forcing in into gear while moving, or even on a rear stand while turning rear wheel

 

He has tried to shift into gear while rocking and moving. Also we tried propping the wheel up and shifting while we were slowly turning the rear wheel with not luck.

 

Maybe a bit drastic now ,but... have you tried setting the front wheel up against a brick wall starting the engine and with your mate with you incase, stamp it into gear being ready to pull the clutch in ,worse could happen you will stall it and your mate can hold the bike upright, I refuse any responsibility for this crazy idea

 

Are you guys just thinking a new clutch would work. I was asking to see if there was possibly an easier option but I know clutches for this year are not too bad as I have priced them out already but figured I would ask just to see if you guys had any other ideas.

 

Hi . has he come off the bike at all, , sometimes taking the gear lever off and placing it at a different angle might shift the gears, worth a try

 

We have tried to really pull up on the gear shift to see if it works and it did not work at all. It still would not shift into gear for us

 

Then if your thinking about changing clutch disc's, you could have a look at the forks and shift drum at the same time
