I found some info somewhere that the flywheel portion of the campaign was for bikes in Japan only, but that info is over 1 year old. It seems that the new flywheel has a smaller magnet on it so that the stator won't get so hot. Maybe by now they have realized that the problem is affecting more than just bikes in Japan. I hope they get to the bottom of it.

I went in and talked to them today.....the techs at honda wanted to know exactly what had been modified...the SM was very honest and listed everything...and their response was...none of that would cause anything...so they ran the whole battery of diagnosis tests and they all pointed directly to the flywheel...and I said tothe SM..."isn't that what I had told you from the beginning?"...I got a sheepish look.he is ordering the flywheel monday and I get it back wednesday at the latest...I am going to call him and ask him to compare the two flywheels and compare the magnet size and or spacing and number of magnets

That info about the flywheel would be nice to know. I wouldn't be surprised if the part number for the new flywheel is different from the old one. There could be a supercession in part numbers even if there was never a campaign to replace them on North American Honda bikes.

So I guess basic electrical theory/magnetism still works in the real world. They would have helped you far sooner if they dusted off the first year books from their trade.

What you say is true, but unless they are allowed to modify the original flywheel(which I doubt), they still need to be able to have alternate part to use. I hope they come through and fix it.
